Spicy Shortbread Nuggets
1 ¼  cups all-purpose flour
¼  cup packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon aniseed, crushed
¼  teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8  teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
½  cup margarine or butter
  •  In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar, aniseed, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom.  Using a pastry blender, cut in margarine till mixture resembles fine crumbs.  Form mixture into a ball and knead till smooth.
  •  Divide dough into 12 portions.  On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough into a 10-inch rope. Cut ropes into ½ pieces. Place pieces ½ inch apart onto ungreased shallow baking pans.
  •  Bake in a 325' oven for 12 to 15 minutes o till the edges are fin-n and bottoms are lightly browned.  Remove cookies and cool on paper towels.  Makes about 240.
